My town

Montefrío

Hi Juan,
Thanks for your last email. It was great to hear from you.
You asked me to tell you something about my home town Montefrio. I have lived here since I was born. I´m going to explain you how it is. The houses are old in the city centre and inner city, but if you can walk in the outskirts you´ll see new suburbs with a lot detached and semi-detached houses. Also, there are a few block of flats and some cottages.
Nowadays, Montefrio is one of the villages with the best views in the world because four years ago the magazine National Geographic chose it. But before all that publicity, in my opinion, my town has always been more beautiful than other towns nearby. It´s very quiet and silent. I like that it´s rarely crowded, so for example I can go to buy calmly or I can park anywhere. Would you like to come to visit me soon?
I´m looking forward to hearing from you,
Verónica.

My town

Loja

Hi Mary,

Thanks for your email. It was wonderful to hear from you!
I´m going to tell you something about my home town. Loja is the third the largest town in Granada.
There´s one famous garden in the outskirts that people like. It´s a quiet place, although around the garden there are detached houses and some cottages. That garden, called Narvaez, is the prettiest in Granada. Moreover, we also have an enormous castle in the top of the mountain. In the castle, a new area has been opened recently so that people can visit it.
Some years ago we´ve changed some places in the suburbs to the town, such as the football stadium that it´s often packed with people every weekend. Oh, and they´re building a new indoor pool, too! People say that the indoor pool is better than the one in Huetor-Tajar.
Write back soon. Don´t forget to tell me about your home town. I wish all the best, and take care!

My town

Huétor-Tájar

Hi Helen!
Thanks for your e-mail. How are things? I hope you´re well. Sorry, I haven´t written for ages, I’ve been working really hard. In your last e-mail you asked me about my home town and how it has changed over time.
Huétor-Tájar is a rather plain town without historical buildings, it only has a towel and a church. However it´s a clean, quiet, modern and lively town, where you can find everything you look for. In addition, it´s well connected, it´s as far from Antequera as from Granada.
My town used to be more boring than now. It´s got a famous medieval fair and living nativity scene. The most famous is a stunning monumental nativity scene which changes every Christmas. Moreover, my town´s fair is celebrated twice a year. I hope you´ll be able to come someday. We´ll have a great time.
Years ago, people used to be poor farmers, but things were improving and people who had had to emigrate came back. As a result, Huétor´s far bigger than before and it´s some factories in the outskirts. Actually, I´ve worked in one of them. It´s so good to work in my town, isn´t it?
I must go now, I´m looking forward to hearing from you.
Best wishes,

Rosa.

My town

Salar

Hi Peter,
You asked me to tell you something about my home town. Although Salar isn’t a big town, it isn’t one of the smallest towns in Granada. It has a population about 2,700. In the last years, my town has changed a lot. At present, it is bigger than before and the houses in the suburbs are newer and more modern than the houses in the town centre.
Recently, an ancient roman villa has been discovered in Salar, it’s probably the most important villa in the east of Andalusia. We also have other interesting places such as The Bañuelo, one underground spring, or historic monuments, for example the Arab Tower and St. Ana’s church.
On the other hand, if you walk in the countryside, you’ll be able to see some farms and cottages, because the main activity in Salar is the agriculture, there haven’t been built factories there.
And to finish, I tell you that Salar is a very nice place where you can live because this is a quieter place than the city, the air is very clean and its people are friendlier.
Make sure you write soon, and tell me about your home city.
All the best,

Antonio.

My town

Tocón

Hi Lisa,
Thanks for your last email. It was wonderful to hear from you! You asked me to tell you something about my home town. Tocón is a tiny town, it has less than one thousand people. This isn’t a big problem because it’s near Granada. I’ve been living in a lively Barcelona since I was 22 years old.
My hometown has enormous olive fields and it also has asparagus fields. Nowadays, this area is the largest producer of green asparagus. For these reasons, it’s a good option to visit a quiet and historic town.
My town is special because people can go for a walk, cycling or another sport in the countryside but, some people must visit the town centre where there is a square where there is an immigrant statue or antique drinking fountains of animals.
Recently, there is a change: years ago there were more people in my town than now.  I don’t like this change,  but I can’t do anything.
Anyway, write back soon. Don’t forget to tell me about your home town or another thing.

Best wishes,

Margarita.

A1- Writing: Visiting Mérida

I’m visiting the Roman city of Mérida.
This is a very beautiful place.
We are seeing its Roman amphitheater.
I'm walking in this old city and it is really exciting.
All monuments are well preserved.
My family and I are taking a lot of photos.
At the top of the aqueduct there are storks.
The new city and the old city are both together.
This place is really nice.
